Why personalising education based on student interests doesn’t work
Summary
Performance-based adaptation is distinguished from rewriting every topic around a learner’s interests.
Christodoulou accepts adaptation based on demonstrated performance but questions organizing content around preferences. Analogies must be familiar and illuminate the target concept; entertaining contexts can also distract.
The essay separates pacing, remediation, interest-based rewriting and learner choice. Its provocative title should not be treated as evidence against every form of adaptive instruction.
