Peer and AI Review + Reflection (PAIRR): A human-centered approach to formative assessment

Summary

A mixed-methods study of experience and judgment.

The study includes 654 participants and qualitative analysis of 131 students’ reflections. Most preference respondents favored combined feedback, while many preferred peers alone. The authors stress that AI’s perceived utility occurred alongside human feedback.

Perceptions, survey attrition and differing course support limit interpretation. The later business-writing report is related evidence, not an independent replication.

No direct writing-gain or AI-feedback bias evaluation.
